Senior Programme Officer

Alex is a versatile Health Manager with a range of diplomatic, technical and managerial skills specializing in Health Policy, research, training and advocacy. He holds a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree of Makerere University and Master of Science (Distinction) in Health Services Management of Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi. Alex has a deep and wide experience with the public and private health care and higher education systems in East & Horn of Africa having worked with many International Health and Development agencies and Government MDAs. Alex as an Independent Consultant has undertaken several organizational development projects. These agencies include Ministry of Health , Ministry of Education of Uganda, WHO, UNFPA, THET Somaliland, MoH Somaliland, Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau, AMREF, Belgian Technical Cooperation, Save for Health Uganda, Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union among others. Alex is also vastly experienced in academia having being involved in teaching, research and management in several Universities that include: Kampala International University, Bishop Stuart University, Victoria University Kampala, Institute of Hospice and Palliative care in Africa among others. Alex is a DAAD/IUCEA trained Quality Assurance expert in Higher Education. As a Programme and Labour Market expert Alex undertook institutional and academic audits in Aga Khan Universities in Kenya & Tanzania and Hope Africa University in the Republic of Burundi commissioned by the Inter University Council for East Africa and the participating Universities. Alex was a research scholar of IAHPC 2012 and 2015 scholar of American Academy for Hospice and Palliative Care. Alex is also a reviewer of American Academy of Hospice and Palliative care scholarships for Developing Countries. At THETA Uganda Alex is a Senior Programme Officer for Capacity Development and technical team leader for the establishment of the National Institute of Indigenous Health Science and THETA Research and Ethics Committee Projects led by THETA-Uganda. Alex is a Principal Partner of MERIT Africa an African Consulting firm specializing in Health Systems strengthening that believes in African Solutions for African Challenges
